James G. Jones CFA, CKA, CLU, ChFC, MBA
Jones is the founder and Managing Member of Sterling Investment Advisors, LLC, a fee-based, private client investment management firm. With over 25 years of experience in wealth management, Jones has extensive experience in insurance, estate planning, tax planning, as well as the entire investment management process of defining investor goals, risk assessment, asset allocation, and ongoing review/adjustment.
Prior to founding Sterling Investment Advisors, LLC, Jones was a tenured Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Southwest Baptist University and the 1990 recipient of the Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award.
Jones has been an active volunteer with CFA Institute. He served on the CFA Institute Board of Governors from 2010-2016, serving a term as Chair of the Planning Committee and a member of the 2014-15 CEO Search Committee. Jones was awarded the CFA Institute C. Stewart Sheppard Award in 2008 and the Donald Tuttle Excellence in Grading Award in 2010. Other CFA Institute activities include: member of the Council of Examiners (11 years, with a three-year term as Chairman), CFA exam grader (14 years), member of the 2006 Practice Analysis Task Force, and member of the 2007 Continuing Education Task Force. He also authored two CFA Magazine articles: “The Value of Sharing Ethical Wisdom” – April 2014 and “The Volunteer’s Journey” – December 2016.
Jones has a B.S. in Economics/Business Administration from Southwest Baptist University and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Arkansas. His professional designations include the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
In 1995, while teaching at SBU, Jones founded Sterling Investment Advisors, LLC. In the spring of 2000, Jones resigned from SBU to devote all of his energies to investment management.
Jones has been an active member with the CFA Institute. Areas of service include grading, the Council of Examiners, the 2006 Practice Analysis Task Force, and the 2007 Continuing Education Task Force. In recognition of his service, the CFA Institute awarded Jones the C. Stewart Sheppard award at the 2008 CFA Annual conference in Vancouver, BC.
